What is a cardboard stool?

As its name suggests, a cardboard stool is made entirely from folded cardboard. It is lightweight, yet remarkably strong and stable. A FestivalChair can support up to 200 kg (440 lbs), compared with around 80 kg for some lower-cost corrugated cardboard stools. The difference lies in the clever folding structure and strong materials, which distribute the load across the stool. After an event, visitors can fold their stool flat and take it home as a keepsake, reuse it at another event or send it for recycling. It is a practical, eye-catching seating solution made with sustainability in mind.

The FestivalChair is no ordinary cardboard stool. Its distinctive folding design is internationally patented. We use FSC-certified cardboard, much of it made from recycled material.

Our stools are designed and manufactured in the Netherlands. We also work with a social enterprise that provides supported employment for stock handling and fulfilment. The result is a strong, responsibly made product.

Classic or XL: which cardboard stool is right for you?

The best size for you depends on your venue, your guests and how you plan to use the stools. The Classic is our versatile standard model: compact and ideal for almost any exhibition stand or seating area. If you prefer something higher and more spacious, choose the XL. Its additional height makes it a more comfortable option when guests will be seated for longer. Both models fold flat, support up to 200 kg and are easy to transport.

Where can you use a cardboard stool?

An original Dutch design

The FestivalChair has a genuine Dutch design story. Founder Tim Várdy first had the idea while studying at the conservatoire in The Hague. During a visit to the North Sea Jazz Festival, he found himself wishing there were lightweight, foldable seats. He developed that idea into the internationally patented FestivalChair. The stool later inspired the Dutch Design Chair, a consumer version that won a Red Dot Design Award in 2013. FestivalChairs also received a Best Marketing Tool award in the United States.
That story, together with the design accolades, Dutch production and considered choice of materials, gives brands a distinctive product they can be proud to use.

Custom printing starts from 20 stools. For larger orders, we offer cost-effective printing options that make even runs of thousands more affordable. Unit prices generally decrease as quantities increase. Contact us for a quote based on the number you need.

How long does delivery take?

Lead time is typically 2–3 weeks after approval of your artwork. Full-colour UV printing can often be completed sooner. Standard white or brown stools are usually in stock and can be dispatched faster. Have a tight deadline? Let us know and we’ll see what’s possible.

Is a cardboard stool strong enough for intensive use?

Yes. Our stools are designed for busy events. The multi-layered cardboard and clever folding structure are made to withstand a full day at a trade show without collapsing. For outdoor events in wet weather, we recommend keeping them under cover.
